AI and privacy legal challenges in education

As AI is rapidly advancing and by analysing publicly available data able to transgress the boundary of people’s private life by discovering insights of sensitive nature. The rapid technological advancement is creating new risks connected the extraction of information relating to the individuals, and this is one of the reasons why legislation regulating AI is already being developed on the European Union level. AI is taking part in the ‘fourth industrial revolution’ helping to offer services and data in place of goods.

Application of AI systems in education can bring significant advantages, however it creates a lot of privacy challenges.

This session will be focused on evaluating the opportunities and risks connected with the use of AI in education.

Magdalena Rzaca is a GDPR & IPR Legal Advisor at GÉANT, where she is driving the data protection strategy and intellectual property management to its excellence by introducing Strategic Threat Analysis (STRA) in order to mitigate legal risks. Her career background includes privacy and intellectual property roles in broad specter of organizations including companies from automobile and global energy production companies, investment and private banking, public administration as well as private buffets gathering a decade of international experience which allows her to translate complex legal requirements into practical and operational solutions.

From her wide and extensive academic background, it shall be highlighted her Master of Laws at the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, Intellectual Property Postgraduate Studies at the University of Warsaw.
